Train services between Bath and West Wiltshire have been hit by serious disruption this morning after a derailment at Westbury.

First Great Western said the Westbury-bound line was blocked, leading to cancellations and delays of up to an hour. Services could also be revised at short notice.

The latest information said train services are now able to run through the Westbury area but would not be stopping at the town's station until further notice.

The chaos was sparked by the derailment of an empty train at Westbury overnight.

Delays and cancellations are expected until around 4pm today.

Tickets for First Great Western services between Bristol, Bath and Salisbury are being accepted on South West Trains services going via Reading.

South West is also accepting First tickets between Exeter St Davids and Salisbury and passengers travelling between Southampton Central and Reading and Bristol Temple Meads and Exeter St Davids can use CrossCountry services.

Trains running between London Paddington and Exter St Davids, Plymouth and Penzance will not call at Westbury but stop at Frome to link up with a bus service running to Westbury.

Coach services are also being provided for passengers on trains between Cardiff Central and Portsmouth Harbour and between Bristol Temple Meads and Weymouth. These trains will stop at Trowbridge instead of Westbury.

Passengers from Westbury travelling towards London Paddington and Exeter St David's, Plymouth and Penzance will need to use the bus service provided to travel to Frome.

Travellers needing to get to stations towards Weymouth should also use this service.

Road replacement services are also running between Westbury and Trowbridge for passengers heading for stations en route to Portsmouty Harbour and Bath Spa.
