Sainsbury’s at Melksham in Trouble Again

Wiltshire Council may instigate legal proceedings against giant supermarket Sainsbury's over alleged breaches of building conditions at the newly completed Melksham store. The Bath Road superstore started off on the wrong foot with the people of Melksham when hundreds of trees were chopped down to enlarge the car park. The new shop was opened at the end of November after months of building work.

The council has received complaints from local residents about excessive noise and building work outside of permitted hours.
On November 11 the council issued a statutory notice ordering Sainsbury's to keep works to between 7.30am and 6pm Monday to Friday and 8am to 1pm on Saturdays, but residents claimed this was ignored. Council officers are apparently collecting evidence, including recordings made by nearby residents.
