You might want to approach Dr Ian Cardy about that as he is I believe Melksham's official "tree warden" - though quite what that entails, or whether it's a merely voluntary position, is unclear to me.
Sadly in a week that saw Sainsbury's and Asda both felling vast swathes of trees, a homeowner in Sandridge Road chose to chop down the line of 3 mature trees that fronted their property as well. I didn't see the usual green sign go up about planning permission so I'm imagine they didn't bother. It's been a good week for chainsaw manufacturers if nothing else.
Hi Sasha,
Dr. Ian Cardy is Sarah's father - he lives in Watson's Court. I'm not planning on going this evening since I'm broadly in favour of the Sainsbury's redevelopment and I'm scared I'll get lynched by NIMBYs! What Sainsbury's are planning for the site is I believe a positive thing for Melksham as a whole, and for those of us with long memories, is far far better than the old Sawtells factory that occupied the land beforehand...
Incidentally, I should like to add that a representative of the Town Council phoned me earlier having seen my posting about the trees in Sandridge Road saying that they were aware of the redevelopment - good to know they're both on the case and following up comments posted on this forum :)
I think the sad thing about the Sainsburys situation is that it is not the trees on the main site that have caused so much of the problem but the large number that they have felled on the part where the flood ponds will be and going up to the nature reserve - have you had a walk down there? We need to see what replanting and landscaping they are planning to do, just so many trees down that didn't need to.

Hi Pam I took a walk down there last week on a particularly grey day and posted some pictures up here. Here is the link on the site:

It makes very depressing viewing indeed!
well about the protesters against the devastation that Sainsbury's make of the woodland it's sad see that are people that don't care about all 486 trees that were cut and not just all the wildlife that loose their habitat!!!!!!!!!!!
If any of you before enjoy the walk in the river bank should be horrified with the nightmare that is now.
And most important any green area that disappear in any part of country is very important nor just for us but special for the future generations.
It's sad read that are people connect with so much greed of sainsbury's and so many others.
Can anyone tell me what the result was of the meeting with Sainsbury’s last Monday at the town hall? And anem58, did you see the pictures that I took? http://tinyurl.com/64k9xx5
