Hi , I am a new member to the group and am looking for help regarding a cycle manufacturer called Albion who was believed to have been located in melksham around the 1920s and 1930s. I have seen a cycle with the name Albion on the headstock and would like to know more about it.
Please help.

Thanks - Bobbyzee

I don't know much, but I believe the Albion manufacturer was located on the land that is now occupied by Waitrose, north end of town by the river. John Fournier of Melksham bought the name "Albion" and licensed it. He is credited with patenting a new brake bicycle (penny farthing) around the 1870s. There is an Albion Bikes in Australia, but I don't think there is a connection. Just by shear coincidence I was talking with someone about the history of Melksham and I started looking into Albion...and came across your question. If I learn anything more, I will post it.
