From looking on Twitter this morning, it seems to be that the Melksham Area Board agreed to keep the library in the town centre ... but not permanently. Will check it out and write more!

There was much action on Twitter last night with Melksham News kicking off:
Area Board backing out of town campus. Does this fairly represent public opinion? We want to know your thoughts.
Sarah Cardy, Labour local councillor, raised the following points:
Police proposing to co-locate to Melksham campus so you can borrow a book, report crime and have a swim all together
Concerns of older people being expressed about the library moving from the town centre at Melksham Area Board to Melksham campus
Melksham Area Board voted for the single site campus with a library in town but not long term. (An uneasy compromise that!!)
Lib-Dem MP Jon Hubbard tweeted:
Melksham Oak School say they have not been consulted about the Campus being developed on the school site!
Chamber of commerce say Library should remain in town centre.
All of the parish councils except Semington say they want to keep the library in the town centre. Town Council out of touch regarding Melksham campus.
I went to the meeting and got so carried away with answering your question that I went way over my 4000-character limit! I didn't want to flood this board out by copying and pasting a large number of paragraphs. I think I definitely had an opinion. I think this is why I'm not a great Tweeter.
And a link to a longer post from two members of the audience is http://tinyurl.com/4dxv4lj . If you want a headline: Melksham Campus - a win / win opportunity, but a severely lacking decision process

It's nice of you to have promoted me Sarah, but I am only a lowley councillor. Poor Duncan will be thinking I'm after his job!
Seriously though, the meeting was a disgrace and I left ashamed to have been a part of it. You can read my full thoughts on my website http://tinyurl.com/4qkkfep
