Melksham Writer's Group

Do you write for fun? Are you working on a novel? Already published? A budding journalist? Is poetry your thing? Or are you new to writing and just want to meet other writers in the area?

We are the Melksham Writers group and we meet every fortnight on a Sunday, usually the first and third of every month at 2pm in The Tavern pub on Market Place, with the intention of sharing ideas, enthusiam and to give or receive critique/advice over a few drinks. Feel free to bring along your latest project for feedback or just sit and chat.

There is no set schedule and we are open to suggestions if people want to work on specific areas each month - character creation, style, tone, etc. There is no fee and anyone is welcome to come along. Just bring a pen, some paper (or whatever your tools may be), yourself and your imagination!

We will take over a booth in The Tavern Pub on Market Place, Melksham from 2pm onwards on Sunday (look out for a small yellow chicken). If you're on Facebook, so are we - Melksham Writer's Group.

Facebook seemed the most logical choice to start with, because everyone (well, almost everyone) is connected to it one way or another. But now we've got several online adverts going, such as this one to help promote our little group as well as the Melksham News. Twitter has some interest but it's just a case of getting the word out to those who might want to come along.

We're also putting the finishing touches to our flyer, which we hope to have displayed around town in the next few days.

I was tempted to come along as well (being a writer and journalist myself, it might be nice to meet a few like-minded souls locally!) however I'm afraid one mention of Facebook and I ran a mile....

We only set the Writer`s Group up last month on Facebook as a means where writer`s / poets / or anyone who enjoys writing, like myself can meet up with other such individuals, in a relaxed environment and help motivate the procrastination that some of us have. We`re branching out, through various websites and media to advertise the non-profit group.
